Things to do while in Albania:

Check out Tirana - the colorful capital

Long plagued by its communist block past, Tirana was a bleak and gray city until Edi Rama, an internationally renowned painter, became the mayor of the city. He transformed the cement neighbourhoods into lovely, colorful and lively city, adding many parks and designs that still catch the tourists' eyes.

Make a day-trip to Kruje

Kruje is an ancient city, couple of hours drive from Tirana. You can visit the Kruje Castle, built in 5th and 6th century, which was one of the main Albanian strongholds against the Ottoman Empire and now houses the museum of Skenderbeg - an Albanian national hero. You can also visit the local Ethnographic museum, and enjoy the atmoshpere in the city.

Visit the Blue Eye spring

Reaching unknown depths, this blue hole in Albania’s Delvinë District is fed by an underground spring. Tourists travel from miles around for a glimpse of its natural beauty. Its name (Syri i Kalter) means “Blue Eye,” and it is mesmerizing to gaze into its portal.

Visit the seaside in Durres

The small seaside town of Durres boasts not only good beaches and great food, but also a rich history. One of Roman's biggest amphitheatres is located here, built by Emperor Trajan in the 2nd century and housing up to 20,000 people. Now it is a massive restauration project and a protected locality.

Find a secret beach

The untouched beauty of Albania spreads to its small, secluded beaches that can be a real treasure to discover. One of these is the Gjipe beach, hidden in the Gjipe canyon falling directly into the azure waters. It is very close to the Porto Palermo, its 19th-century castle and great restaurants.

Take in the views from Rosafa castle in Skhodra

One of the most beautiful lake towns in the Balkans, Skhodra boasts beautiful, scenic views to its rivers and lakes. The hill above the city hosts the Rosafa castle, a historic place well worth the visit - both for its legendary building story as well as for the amazing scenic views from the top.
